Our Little Baby Girl is All Grown Up

Ruger started her first heat today, much to the dismay of our duvet cover and duvet. They should wash up just fine though. She's wearing her new panties and doing really well with them. At first she kept trying to poke her nose in them to clean herself but I repositioned them and tightened them a bit and she's left them alone.

I thought 2 pairs would be enough, but I may be mistaken. She has a really cute black with white polka dot pair that I ordered and they arrived yesterday - what timing! And then she has the hand me down denim pair that Saphera's mom, Terri, was nice enough to send. I may need to be getting a few more.

Duke hasn't been interested yet at all, but I'm sure that will change so I will enjoy the peace and quiet while we have it.

Duke's Vet Appointment

Duke had a vet appt on Tuesday of this week - he was due for his Bordetella and Lepto shots. We saw a new vet that we had never seen before, and she could not believe that Duke is going to be 5 in August. And, it wasn't just like oh he looks good for his age, but she was baffled that everything (health, body condition, energy level, etc.) seemed like that of a much younger dog. She even mentioned that normally they would consider Duke a geriatric at 7, but she'd be shocked if she saw him in with any geriatric issues at that age - let's hope she's right!

It's great to hear that my big boy is able to stump vets with his age! Let's hope it means that he's got lots of happy, healthy years ahead of him! I know that no one believes me when I tell them his age - everyone always thinks he's a puppy, but to hear it come from a vet is some of the best news an owner can get :)

Pool

Ruger went in the pool today!!! We had our feet in and Greg was able to get her on the top step. Back feet in, but still on Dad's lap and then her front feet were set in. She wasn't quite sure about it, but stood there and seemed to enjoy the water, but didn't want to move around. Hopefully once we really get in she'll be more interested and excited about it!
